Design Brief: Kitchen
Michele Rhoda, interior architect and director from ARRCC Interiors briefed the contestants on their next challenge, designing the kitchen.
The kitchen is an interactive space where we entertain, we get creative and ultimately spend quite a bit of time there. Using cupboard doors to conceal appliances like the dishwasher can help create a sense of more space when designing a kitchen in a compact space. Michele believes when it comes to kitchens, the beauty is in the details.
The brief for the kitchen is very simple. Keep it clean and practical, and make it look beautiful! Michele suggested that lately people have been quite daring with colour in the kitchen, with charcoal greys and dusty colours coming through. For their Val de Vie Estate apartments, the contestants will have to think about resale value and keeping the tones quite neutral and only bringing in a bit of contrast with darker colours.
The budget projections are looking very exciting for this challenge.
Juané plans on spending a massive R191 000 on her kitchen, with R110 000 going to her appliances alone. Rudolph projected a spending of R56 500, and Minenhle only R32 500 but both of them have not included their appliances yet.
